Welcome from our Principal

Welcome to the Swiss International School in Qatar (SISQ); a new multilingual school for international families living in Doha.

As the Interim Principal for SISQ, I have been here since September and I am thoroughly enjoying the challenges of setting up a new school from scratch. I am also enjoying being back in the Gulf, a part of the world I know quite well having previously spent 10 years in Kuwait as Head Master of a highly successful school.

SISQ opened its doors in January for children aged 3 to 5 on the IB Early Years Programme, and currently have students enrolled onto all of the three Early Year Grade Levels; Pre-KG, KG1 and KG2. For September 2017, we are opening up for children up to 13 years old to join us for the IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes, Grades 1 to 8. By September 2018, we are likely to open up to 16 years old in 2018, then 17 years old in 2019 and 18 years old in 2020. SISQ is one of the few schools in Qatar that will offer the full IB curriculum; a curriculum that ensures we provides families in Qatar with a truly international education tailored for a global and ever-changing world.

As a Swiss school, our values are anchored in the international values of Switzerland. The Swiss are world renowned for their precision, their tolerance, their independence, democracy, and all round excellence. It is also a country known for their diverse international community, of which the IB Programme of International Schooling caters very much to. The programme started in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968.

Learning in the IB Programme is unique. It is child-centered, enquiry-based, developing independent minds and global citizens. Gone is the ‘chalk and talk’ of traditional teacher-led learning. It is also broad in its scope, encouraging children to build an interest in the world around them, and develop into confident, self-assured individuals. The IB also focuses on language acquisition. As a Swiss school, we embed French in the curriculum. From September, there will be a native tongue French stream as well as French for non-French speakers. French will be taught daily in Primary and Middle Years, and French speaking Teaching Assistants will be sharing their language skills on a daily basis in the Early Years setting. In addition to this we will support the development of our students’ mother-tongue, and provide Arabic learning for all of our students. We aim to turn out bilingual and multilingual children, and to make this a premiere league international school with perhaps 30, 40, indeed 50 nationalities all enjoying the most wonderful multi-cultural setting.

There will be an extensive Extra-Curricular Programme, offering a true breath of experience so that The Arts, Music, Clubs, Sports and Societies will feature large in the ambitions of the school.

We encourage you to come and visit our school, located in the highly sought after Al Luqta area. We have been granted brand new state-of-the-art facilities of the very highest standard, and provide weekly school tours that allow families to come and view our school and speak with our staff. You can book a school tour or register for an individual visit on our website or contact our admissions staff.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Swiss International School in Qatar.

Yours sincerely,

John Allcott

Interim Principal
