Why SISQ?

At the Swiss International School our approach to learning is very much anchored in the international values of Switzerland and preparing children for an increasingly globalised world. We encourage multilingualism and cultural awareness, and we ensure that the education our students gain at SISQ allows them to become successful and prepared to participate in a global world. We also promote a culture of care at the school, ensuring that all students feel happy and looked after, and provide them with many opportunities to engage in social and emotional learning through our wide range of classroom and extra-curricular activities.

As an IB World School, we provide families living in Qatar with a truly international education based on an innovative and evolving curriculum for today’s ever-changing world. The IB curriculum is taught at 5000 schools around the world, and is known for its innovative approach and focus on educating the whole child. We also utilise the latest learning technology and methods to ensure our students achieve the best to their abilities.

As an international school, with the international values of Switzerland at the core, we take great pride in the academic offering we are bringing to families living in Qatar. Our dedication to provide an education for the future can be seen in our unique and truly international approach to learning.

An International Education for the Future

As SISQ is an IB World School, students follow the International Baccalaureate curriculum and are provided with a unique education. They benefit from an evolving and innovative approach to learning, and they will:

  • be encouraged to think independently and drive their own learning
  • be able to engage with people in an increasingly globalized, rapidly changing world
  • take part in programmes of education that can lead them to some of the highest ranking universities around the world
  • become more culturally aware, through the development of additional languages
Multilingualism and Languages

Whilst English is the primary language of instruction at SISQ, one of the unique aspects of our school is that we provide families with the opportunity to engage in a multilingual learning environment. As a Swiss international school, with a sister school in the French speaking part of Switzerland, SISQ has a strong focus on the French language, in addition to supporting the learning of German native speakers. As an IB World School, we make languages and multiculturalism a priority. The children’s mother tongue is also fully supported, ensuring that our students become truly multilingual and develop into global citizens.

Our Teachers and Learning Methods

At SISQ, we utilise the latest learning technology and methods to ensure our students achieve the best to their abilities. Our teachers are highly experienced and talented with expertise in delivering an international curriculum in engaging and innovative ways.

As part of ensuring our students reach their potential, we also take advantage of the benefits of providing a single-sex learning environment for our older students. At our Secondary School, boys and girls are taught separately in the classroom (from Grade 7). Studies have shown that boys benefit from more action-based learning methods when they are older, whilst girls perform better academically, particularly in sciences and maths, in a more focused all-girls learning environment.

A Culture of Care

As a new school it has been important for us to early on promote a culture of care to ensure children know they are cared for, and learn to care for themselves, others and the planet. We know that when we attend to students' social and emotional needs, their academic achievements increases, the incidence of problem behaviors decreases and the quality of relationships around each child improves. This rationale is central to our deliberate promotion of  a culture of care here at SISQ. Authentic opportunities to engage in social and emotional learning are important and a focus for the school through a wide range of classroom and extracurricular opportunities.

Strategic Location and Safe Environment

SISQ is just 10 to 20 minutes away from most of the prime areas in Qatar, and along its strategic and convenient location is its safe environment. 98% of our parents agreed that their children are physically safe at SISQ (Parent Survey 2021).

Council of International Schools (CIS) Member

SISQ was awarded CIS membership in its 4th operational year! This is a great achievement by a dedicated school community.

"Though young in school terms, the development of the Swiss International School in Qatar (SISQ) has been impressive; there are many strengths to highlight. Of these the guiding statements must come first as the foundation for everything for which SISQ stands. The statements are inspiring and provide a very good framework for the development of other documents, a good number of which are in place. These foundational policies, systems and processes should ensure clear direction to the education that the school offers. The seamless and successful transition of operators from Bellevue to the Qatar Foundation is also noteworthy since the education of the students continued without interruptions. The quality of education in the school is evident in the degree of student engagement." - CIS evaluator
