Electives

Taking responsibility for one’s own learning and becoming independent is key to being successful. All students in Grades 6-10 have allocated ‘elective’ periods on their timetable.

This is a time when students can pursue particular interests or seek extra support from teachers. Similarly, it is also a time when students can work on their service learning activities by getting involved in different aspects of school life. For example, this year we have had groups who have used this time to design the social spaces for secondary students, while others have improved their ability to play musical instruments and some have spent time in Early Years classrooms arranging reading activities for the youngest members of our community.

Teachers are available during electives so students have the opportunity to seek extra support or work in small groups with a teacher. This can be initiated by either the teacher or the student and thus allows bespoke support to be offered on a short or long term basis.
