Our dedicated and passionate team of educators have been recruited from around the world and come from places such as United Kingdom, Switzerland, USA, France, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Canada, New Zealand and Lebanon.

They reflect the international learning environment of which we provide for our students, anchored in the international values of Switzerland. Families who join the Swiss International School in Qatar join a truly multicultural school community, where multilingualism and cultural awareness is celebrated and valued.

Janet Lynn Bouwmeester - Music Teacher

Janet joined SISQ from Geneva, Switzerland where she has worked in International Education for most of her career. She was born in the UK, and has lived most of her life in Switzerland. She speaks, English, French, German, Dutch and has basic Classical Arabic.

She is a Graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, London, specializing in piano and in clarinet. She has played in orchestras in the UK, and toured Germany and the United States in her early years. She loves working with young musicians, and has performed in International Music Festivals in most European cities, through The Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS), of which she is a founder member. She performs as a duettist with Julie Tompkins-Wagner and has recorded several CD’s of classical 4hands piano repertoire.

Janet has a Master Degree in Educational Leadership and Management. She is a member of the International Baccalaureate Educator Network, and has given workshops in Togo, Sudan, Egypt, France and Morocco. She finds visiting new schools and introducing them the PYP program both stimulating and rewarding.

Janet has two grown up children; a son working in offshore sustainable energy construction, and a daughter working at Doha University as a Post Doc researcher in Marine Sciences. Living on the shores of Lake Geneva lended itself to outdoor sports. The whole family enjoys sailing, hiking, scuba diving and skiing. They are all diving professionals and share a love of the underwater world.


Nia Merriman - Head of Physical and Health Education

Nia started her teaching career in the UK before moving to the Middle East. Over the last 14 years she has taken on various management roles, including PSHE coordinator, Head of PE, Director of Sport, CAS Coordinator and IBDP coordinator with various educational establishments such as Queen Elizabeth School, William Hulme Grammar, Stockport Grammar, Nord Anglia and ACS. 

Nia holds coaching qualifications in numerous sporting activities and supports the International schools sports league here in Qatar, holding the position of Chairperson. Her passion in the teaching environment can be seen with the high engagement of her students in a fun yet challenging environment along with the her dedication in developing an exciting extra curricular programme. Outside of work she enjoys travelling to new places, meeting new people and playing netball. Nia is also fluent in Welsh.



Albert Matamu - PE Teacher

Alby is from New Zealand. He has been teaching for eighteen years, ten of those years in IB PYP/MYP international schools in Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam. Alby has a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) and a Diploma in Recreation Management. He has experience teaching upper primary grades and physical education for lower and upper primary students. Alby’s mother tongue is Samoan and he speaks English and basic Japanese. He is a chief (matai) of a village in Samoa which connects him to his people and culture. He enjoys travelling, music and sports. Alby is a proud New Zealander/Samoan who brings with him a love of all sports, especially rugby! Alby is accompanied by his wife Bronwyn, who teaches Grade 3, and their son, Luca.
