IB Diploma Programme

The International Baccalaureate's Diploma Programme (DP) is a two-year academically challenging programme designed to meet the educational requirements of students between the ages of 16 and 18. The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge; who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

It is a well-rounded programme devised to develop students with skills for the 21st Century, who are informed global citizens. It aims to help students to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to participate actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world.

The Diploma Programme six subject groups:

  • Studies in Language and Literature
  • Language Acquisition
  • Individuals and Societies
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • The Arts

Each Subject Group offers different courses, and students must choose one subject from each of the first five groups and either an Arts subject or second subject from groups 1 to 5.

The Diploma Programme Core:

  • The Extended Essay: Students engage in independent research through an in-depth study of a question relating to one of the DP subjects they are studying. The world studies extended essay option allows students to focus on a topic of global significance, which they examine through the lens of at least two DP projects
  • The Theory of Knowledge: This course develops a coherent approach to learning that unifies the academic disciplines. It encourages critical thinking, and is aimed at deepening the students' understanding of knowledge as a human construction
  • Creativity, Action, Service (CAS): The CAS programme involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies throughout the Diploma Programme. Creativity encourages students to engage in the arts and creative thinking. Action seeks to develop a healthy lifestyle through physical activity. Service with the community offers a vehicle for a new learning with academic value. The three strands of CAS enhance students’ personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning and enable journeys of self-discovery.

The IB Diploma is recognized by leading universities worldwide as a challenging qualification that provides an excellent foundation for further studies.

At SISQ, students who join the IB DP* will join the Secondary School and benefit from a single-sex learning environment. To learn more about the benefits of this please click here
